But I love it anyway. These are the trousers I am now thinking I will bag from Cos after work. I am envisaging so many purple and pink themed outfits. After a period of desiring only to wear black, grey and navy it seems I am emerging from my cocoon.

And clearly these fine trousers need to be worn with such items as these:

This is a new highlight in film and television costuming for me: Blair’s Gossip Girl finale outfit. Even if you don’t like GG or the outfit itself, you can’t deny the work that has gone into it. The colour combo is so unlikely, it had to be designed and worn with the utmost confidence, a quality that Blair usually has in spades.
When you pull each element out, it doesn’t seem to make any sense. Blair is 18 years old, albeit a very conservative teenager - why would she wear an embellished cardigan and a gold lame shirt and skirt? Because she is a titan. It’s hard to convey in the screen cap how beautifully the dark gold of the shirt complements the acidic yellow of the cardigan. It just works beautifully, every single aspect working hard together to make this what it is.

I love thoughtfully coordinated colour in an outfit, the execution of which is a skill that I don’t seem to possess. I’ll let Rothko make my point for me:

Thanks Rothko. Wearing yellow isn’t for the faint-hearted or coordination blind like myself and it’s fiendishly difficult to do on the cheap – pale yellow cotton vests don’t have the same impact and while you’d think they’d work with denim, in my experience this fails.
I will leave you with a final yellow and gold-themed thought.

P.s. this website will help you find out which designer made everyone’s clothes on Gossip Girl.

Somewhere, deep in my heart, all I really want is to dress like a queen trapped in a castle somewhere, or alternatively a lovely little fairy in the woods. When I wrote stories as a kid, the queen was always in charge so clearly her clothes would need to be a bit more practical than these, but…look how beautiful these dresses from Etsy designer Sarah Seven are. I especially love the white dresses, which tick a lot of dream dress boxes for me, because I still want to dress the way I hoped I would when I was 10. Pure indulgence.

Eva Mendes is known as a sex-kitten, but this dress, probably on purpose, shows a different side to her. I love the 70s-style stylised flower print and this is a rare example of a great yellow dress. I think it helps that they are warm banan-y yellows and not canary (only Rihanna can wear those), which look yummy against her skintone. This is a late entry for my favourite dresses of the year.
