But I love it anyway. These are the trousers I am now thinking I will bag from Cos after work. I am envisaging so many purple and pink themed outfits. After a period of desiring only to wear black, grey and navy it seems I am emerging from my cocoon.

And clearly these fine trousers need to be worn with such items as these:

Yellow top from ASOS, pink top from COS. Acronymtastic.

I found this very well thought out and well-researched list of the author’s 50 favourite dresses of the year at the blog Coco’s Tea Party. I had forgotten about some personal favourites such as Drew Barrymore’s gucci dress and there are the iconic frocks of the year such as Angelina Jolie’s green dress worn by her when heavily pregnant. In addition, here is one of my favourites, which inspires me to do some colour-toning DIY on my own dresses. Coincidentally, it is from the same 2008 event as Coco’s winner. France brings out the best in these American stars…

Scanning ebay can be tiresome and frustrating for those with better things to do, especially when searching for vintage. Here is my selection of the best current ebay vintage auctions (UK) featuring the colour purple.
1. Jersey dress, size 14. At time of posting, £9.99. I’m not convinced that this is 1940s as claimed but it’s made of a draping knitted material and is a lovely colour, plus I love panels and layers.
2. Polyester dress, size 16. ATOP, £65. Steep I know but check out the detail: ribbon-edged ruffles in the skirt and at the neckline, with a full skirt and a luminous colour.

3. Polyester dress, size 8/10. ATOP £12.99. The graphic stripe on this dress is awesome. I apologise for finding you polyester clothing but it’s not always as bad as you imagine, I have a couple of polyester ebay and they are soft and wearable and hardly ever catch fire.

Anne Hathaway’s delightful dress for a screening of her new film Rachel Getting Married has reminded me of my love for toning purples, as seen on fellow filmstar Reese Witherspoon at the Oscars 2007.

Purple is a lovely colour to wear in the autumn and winter and even though it’s been supposedly on-trend for a good while now, you hardly ever see anyone in it. I think it looks great with gold, but that may just be me, and could smack a bit of “Roman Emperor”, which is taking things a bit too literally. Similar rules apply if you find yourself dressed as a conch shell or the queen, other famous purple things from history.
Delicious bright purple looks good with black. This Biba blouse may be the nicest blouse in existence (if you have £300 knocking around, My Wardrobe has it on sale).
And for my next trick, I will dig up some slightly more realistic vintage finds on ebay, so you don’t have to (see my next post).
